Time for Deep Healing; Romans 5-8

May the mumbling commence!
So much in life promises us quick fixes that never come true.  In reality, these “quick fixes” do nothing more than slap a band-aid on a gushing wound.  They do nothing more than mask the symptoms and ignore the real problem.
That is the way with sin.  We can try to do things God’s way through the Law.  We can try and fail miserably.  OR we can embrace what God has done for us through the Spirit and the Way of Christ Jesus.  Read from Romans chapter eight (Peterson’s The Message paraphrase):
The law always ended up being used as a band-aid on sin instead of a deep healing of it.  And now what the law code asked for but we couldn’t deliver is accomplished as we, instead of redoubling our own efforts, simply embrace what the Spirit is doing in us.  (Verses 3-4)
Is it quick and easy?  No.  To embrace what the Spirit is doing in us means deep change.  Deep change is hard work.  It means letting go of our own dreams and agendas so that we can be free to embrace what the Spirit is doing in us.
To embrace what the Spirit is doing in us, we need both our hands.  We need to let go of the things and priorities that we cling to.  We need to align ourselves to God’s Way of doing things.  And that Way is the Way of Jesus.
Then and only then will we begin our journey toward recovery… to a deep healing.  Isn’t that much better than slapping a band-aid on it?  Isn’t that much better than treating and masking the symptoms?
O God, help us to be bold and embrace the movement of the Spirit in our lives!
Enough mumbling for now…
Peace Out
