Completely One; John 14-17

May the mumbling commence!

Continuing in Jesus’ prayer that is recorded in the gospel according to John, Jesus prays for you and me.  Yes, Jesus prayed for us.  It is a comforting thought.  And what was his prayer?  Read from John chapter seventeen (NRSV):

"I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.  The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one,  I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.(Verses 20-23)

Our God is not a God of division.  Our Lord makes us whole and complete.  Jesus wishes us to be one… God the Father in Jesus and Jesus in us.

Why is this oneness so important?  It is so that the world might believe that God sent Jesus.  And Jesus being sent helps to illustrate vividly that God loves us.

May it be so!  May we be completely one.

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
