A Holy Reminder; John 14-17

May the mumbling commence!
The Holy Spirit is our Counselor or our Advocate.  The same Greek word is translated with these two words.  Yesterday, we learned of the truth function of the Spirit.  Today, we turn to another aspect of this Holy Spirit – that of teacher and reminder.  Read from John chapter fourteen (NRSV):
"All this I have spoken while still with you.  But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (Verses 25-26)
Christ is the Great Teacher.  The Holy Spirit, our Advocate, continues that teaching.  The Advocate reminds us of the lessons of Christ Jesus.  Sometimes we need that reminder – like a string around a finger.  The Hebrew people of the Old Testament needed constant reminders about their Lord.  We are no different.
This Advocate Spirit will work in concert with Jesus… will work in his name.  The Spirit will never contradict the teachings of Jesus.  The teaching of Jesus is a good barometer to tell if the spirit that speaks to us is, indeed, the Holy Spirit of God.
Remind us, O Holy Spirit – our Advocate.  Remind us so that we might follow the teaching of Jesus.
Enough mumbling for now…
Peace Out
