Where Were We in the Beginning? Job 37-38; Galatians 5

May the mumbling commence!

Welcome to Holy Week!  Many of us will sing that old favorite hymn “Were You There?”  As I was reading from Job this morning, I thought of that song.  Where were you and I when creation began?  Read the beginning of the Lord’s challenge to Job in chapter thirty-eight:

"Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Tell me, if you know so much.
Do you know how its dimensions were determined
and who did the surveying?
What supports its foundations, and who laid its cornerstone
as the morning stars sang together
and all the angels shouted for joy?” (Verses 4-7)

Where was Job in the beginning?  Indeed, where were you and I?  The answer is obvious.  Job doesn’t know, and neither do we.  Who knows?  Only God knows.

So, before we cross-examine our Creator, let us rightly remember our limits and the limitlessness of the Lord God.  Instead, let’s join in the chorus of praise.  Let’s join in the shouts of joy and jubilation.

Let’s put our faith into action and see love sprout up.  Read from Galatians chapter five:

But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive everything promised to us who are right with God through faith.  For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, it makes no difference to God whether we are circumcised or not circumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love. (Verses 5-6)

Yes, you and I may have many questions to ask of God.  But they all will melt away in the presence of the Lord.  They will melt away in the intense heat of God’s eternal love.  So, have faith in God’s love and mercy and grace.

Faith is all we need for salvation.  And faith shows its colors in love.  And love is shown in obedience.  But it all starts and ends with faith and love.

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
