Working for a Living of Rest. Psalms 126-130

May the mumbling commence!

It’s high time to be working for a living.  That phrase “working for a living” may conjure up some idea of a boring dead end job that barely pays the bills.  That kind of life does NOT seem like a life at all.

This day, I speak of working for a living from a faith perspective.  What is our work as Christians?  And what does this work lead to?  Read from the beginning of Psalm One-hundred Twenty-seven:

Unless the Lord builds a house,
the work of the builders is useless.
Unless the Lord protects a city,
guarding it with sentries will do no good
It is useless for you to work so hard
from early morning until late at night,
anxiously working for food to eat;
for God gives rest to his loved ones. (Verses 1-2)

So, here’s the invitation:  Abandon the rat race.  Long hours and short nights will not make a life.  They will cause anxiety and a premature death.

Pick up faith in the Lord.  Have faith that God will build you a life.  The Lord will provide, so you have no need to work tirelessly.  Trust in the Lord, and you will have all you need.  That is our work as Christians.  Faith is.  And faith will lead us to a life richer than we can ever imagine.

The outcome of our faith is rest.  Rest is NOT a four-letter word to be avoided at all costs.  Rest is a necessity that happens to be four letters long.

In this case, working for a living and rest can be used in tandem.  It is the Way of the Lord – turning this upside-down world back on its feet.

Praise the Lord!

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
