Guard Your Heart. Proverbs 4-5; First Peter 2

May the mumbling commence!

Want to get your life right?  Guard your heart.  Read Proverbs chapter four verse twenty-three:

Above all else, guard your heart,
for it affects everything you do.

Guard my heart of God.  Make it ever true.  I want to be like you.  They are the words of a song.  And they echo from this verse.  Our plumb line is attached to our hearts.

Guarding our hearts is about appropriately bowing in respect for authority.  Read from First Peter chapter two:

For the Lord's sake, accept all authority – the king as head of state, and the officials he has appointed. For the king has sent them to punish all who do wrong and to honor those who do right.
It is God's will that your good lives should silence those who make foolish accusations against you.  You are not slaves; you are free. But your freedom is not an excuse to do evil. You are free to live as God's slaves.  Show respect for everyone. Love your Christian brothers and sisters. Fear God. Show respect for the king. (Verses 13-17)

This call to acceptance and respect is hard.  Notice: it does not say accept and respect good and godly leaders.  It says accept and respect all leaders – good or bad.

We are free to do otherwise, but we are called – as God’s slaves – to respect all people.  Respect is the foundation of love.  May it be so!

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
