Live Not Memorex. Psalms 120-121; Hebrews 8

May the mumbling commence!

Today is my tenth wedding anniversary to my lovely Anita.  I am hers.  She is mine.  Our relationship is supposed to reflect the relationship between Christ and the church, his Bride.  We are each other’s helpmate.  It is a twenty-four/seven job.  Read Psalm One-hundred Twenty-one:

I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord,
who made the heavens and the earth!

He will not let you stumble and fall;
the one who watches over you will not sleep
Indeed, he who watches over Israel
never tires and never sleeps

The Lord himself watches over you!
The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade
The sun will not hurt you by day,
nor the moon at night.
The Lord keeps you from all evil
and preserves your life.
The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go,
both now and forever.

It’s no wonder that this grouping of Psalms is called the Psalms of ascent.  What can better lift us up than thoughts like these?  Our help comes from the Lord – ever and always.  The Lord is there for us at any time of day or night.  Thank You, O God, for being our protective shade.

May the relationship between Anita and I be so protective and constant.  It’s not about loving her more.  It’s about loving her more constantly in the moment.  That’s the splendor on the love of God.

We are made new.  I remember an old commercial that said, “Is it live or is it Memorex.”  Our God is a living God.  We no longer need to depend on poor substitutes.  Read from Hebrews chapter eight:

Here is the main point: Our High Priest sat down in the place of highest honor in heaven, at God's right hand.  There he ministers in the sacred tent, the true place of worship that was built by the Lord and not by human hands.
And since every high priest is required to offer gifts and sacrifices, our High Priest must make an offering, too.  If he were here on earth, he would not even be a priest, since there already are priests who offer the gifts required by the law of Moses.  They serve in a place of worship that is only a copy, a shadow of the real one in heaven. For when Moses was getting ready to build the Tabernacle, God gave him this warning: "Be sure that you make everything according to the design I have shown you here on the mountain."  But our High Priest has been given a ministry that is far superior to the ministry of those who serve under the old laws, for he is the one who guarantees for us a better covenant with God, based on better promises. (Verses 1-6)

Let’s not settle for Memorex anymore.  Nothing but the real, living God, Baby.

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
