Eyes on the Prize; Philippians

May the mumbling commence!

Becoming Christ-like is a journey – a life long journey.  It means focusing on the path at our feet and ahead and not worrying too much about what we’ve done in the past.  It is this journey that the Apostle Paul writes about in his letter to the Philippians in chapter three (RSV):

Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.  Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.  Let those of us who are mature be thus minded; and if in anything you are otherwise minded, God will reveal that also to you.  Only let us hold true to what we have attained. (Verses 12-16)

Paul speaks about attaining the resurrection of the dead through knowing Christ.  That is what Paul says that he has not obtained.  To know Christ and his transforming power is to be in the never ending process of being perfected in the Spirit of the living God.  It is this journey to maturity that all Christians have embarked upon.

How far have I traveled down this road?  How far have you traveled?  No one will get very far down this road to Christian maturity on their own.  We need one another.  Together¸ we have a better chance at seeing the path ahead… at being one in mind.

Together, we trust God to reveal that path – often times one step at a time.

Let us hold true to what we have learned.  Let us not regress on our path.  Let us stand in defiance to all the plans of the world and of Satan.

Help us, O Lord, to keep our eyes on the prize… becoming day by day more like Jesus.

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
