May the mumbling commence!
Wisdom among people is seldom understood or appreciated
by contemporaries. Hindsight is always
twenty-twenty. Read from Ecclesiastes
chapter nine:
Here is another bit of wisdom that has impressed me as I
have watched the way our world works. There
was a small town with only a few people living in it, and a great king came
with his army and besieged it. There was a poor, wise man living there who knew how to save the town, and so
it was rescued. But afterward no
one thought any more about him.
Then I realized that though wisdom
is better than strength, those who are wise will be despised if they are poor.
What they say will not be appreciated for long. But even so, the
quiet words of a wise person are better than the shouts of a foolish king. A wise person can overcome weapons of war,
but one sinner can destroy much that is good. (Verses 13-18)
Yes the quiet and poor wise in our midst will work long
and hard to create much good in the world.
But all that time and effort can be destroyed in minutes… or even
seconds by the foolish. God help
us! We need it.
So, let’s follow those who do good things, regardless of
their socioeconomic status. Read from
Third John:
I sent a brief letter to the church about this, but
Diotrephes, who loves
to be the leader, does not acknowledge our authority. When I come, I will report some of the
things he is doing and the wicked things he is saying about us. He not only refuses to welcome the traveling
teachers, he also tells others not to help them. And when they do help, he puts
them out of the church.
Dear friend, don't let this
bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that
those who do good prove that they are God's children, and those who do evil
prove that they do not know God. (Verses 9-11)
By their fruit we will know them, indeed!
Enough mumbling for now…
Peace Out
