Holy Spirit as Vision Correction; John 14-17

May the mumbling commence!

The Holy Spirit is Counselor and Advocate and Friend.  In Peterson’s The Message, the Spirit is known as Friend.  This Holy Friend will set right the crooked, warped way the world knows and sees.  Our Friend will begin the long process of correcting our vision so that we may see with the vision of Christ Jesus.  Read from John chapter sixteen (Peterson’s The Message paraphrase):

“So let me say it again, this truth: It’s better for you that I leave.  If I don’t leave, the Friend won’t come.  But if I go, I’ll send him to you.

When he comes, he’ll expose the error of the godless world’s view of sin, righteousness, and judgment: He’ll show them that their refusal to believe in me is their basic sin; that righteousness comes from above, where I am with the Father, out of their sight and control; that judgment takes place as the ruler of this godless world is brought to trial and convicted.”(Verses 7-11)

Denial in faith in God is the most basic of sins.  God help the atheist.  The Lord is the only one who can help them.

But before we get all high and mighty with our belief, let us remember that righteousness comes down from above.  Our righteousness is not something that we earned.  It was something that we were given through Christ Jesus. 

And there is an endless supply of that gift of righteousness.  We need not hoard it.  Let us tell others about that gift.  Let’s shout it out with gusto from the rooftops… on Facebook, on Twitter…

Both righteousness and therefore justice is out of our control.  And that’s a good thing.  Let’s be happy with God dealing out righteousness and judgment.  We don’t need to “help” God out one bit.

Instead let’s give our lives completely to the Friend that God gives us – the Holy Spirit.
