May the mumbling commence!
We see many books about what the afterlife will be like… especially those of a Christian nature. So, it begs the question: What is eternal life like? Let’s look to a passage from the beginning of John chapter seventeen… the beginning of Jesus’ prayer for his disciples and for us (NRSV):
After Jesus had spoken these words, he looked up to heaven and said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son so that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all people, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent. I glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do. So now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had in your presence before the world existed.” (Verses 1-5)
Eternal life consists of knowing the Lord God and knowing His Son Jesus. And knowing means glorifying God and Jesus. In the midst of that glory, we also receive a share of that glory.
If we are to glorify God, then we will need to work. Yes, work for the Lord is worship, and it glorifies the Lord. Mutual glory and edification has been the Great Creator’s plan from the very beginning.
So let’s take the next steps in knowing our Lord and Savior. Those are the next steps in living life eternal.
Enough mumbling for now…
Peace Out
