Wherever We May Roam; Psalm 32, Proverbs 6

May the mumbling commence!

Blessings richly abound in the Advent and Christmas season.  It brings great joy for those who embrace these blessings.  Consider the blessing that the psalmist states at the beginning of Psalm thirty- two:

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity,
And in whose spirit there is no deceit. (Verses 1-2)

Blessed are we when our transgressions are forgiven and when our sin is covered.  Indeed, all of our iniquity is absolved.  All of this is true because of the child that was born to all of us in this season.

The Christ child was born to show us the Way, to teach us, to heal us, and to remove all transgression and sin and iniquity.  The Christ child was born to die upon the cross and to raise to life once more for all time.  What a rich blessing!

Yet, we need to embrace the work that Jesus did for us.  Otherwise, we will never see the blessings that God has in store for us – both in the here and now and in the eternal future.  Embrace that work this season – anew or for the first time.  And welcome in the Spirit of our living Lord and have deceit removed from you.

Wherever we may roam, Jesus the Word of God – the greatest expression of all God’s laws and commands – will lead us to safety and blessings forevermore.  Read from Proverbs chapter six:

My son, keep your father's command,
And do not forsake the law of your mother.
Bind them continually upon your heart;
Tie them around your neck.
When you roam, they will lead you;
When you sleep, they will keep you;
And when you awake, they will speak with you. (Verses 20-22)

Jesus, we offer you welcome into our hearts.  We wear your lessons upon our sleeves and tie them in necklaces around our necks.  Wherever we may roam, your teachings and life lead us.  We can rest secure in you.  And, when we awake anew each morning, your teachings and life will speak to us in ever new and increasing ways.

We give thanks in this Advent Season for Your Word, O God.  We give you thanks for the Christ child, who was born to set us free and show us the way to rightful relationships with God and all of creation.  May we seek to please you in this season and always.

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
