Power and Goodness; Psalm 33-34

May the mumbling commence!

There is power in the speech of the Lord.  In Hebrew, the word would be transliterated as DABAR.  Read about the power of the DABAR of the Lord in Psalm thirty-three:

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap;
He lays up the deep in storehouses.
Let all the earth fear the Lord;
Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.
For He spoke, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast. (Verses 6-9)

The Lord speaks and it is.  It is as simple as that.  What power!  We may dream to have that power when we speak, but we wonder if anyone or anything really listens to us when we speak.  Ask any preacher or teacher this question: “Do you ever feel like your words are falling harmlessly away from your listeners’ ears?”  Most people, if they are honest, will answer this question, “Yes”.

We can only hope to have such power in our speech when we create a fictional story.  For our characters, we are God.  Besides that creative endeavor, we have no hope of having the power of DABAR that the Lord has.  That being said, we should not underestimate the power of our speech to either wound or heal another person.  Sticks and stones may break bones but words can crush the spirit.

So all words – all speech – must pass the taste test.  And nothing is quite as good as the Word of the Lord.  Read from Psalm thirty-four:

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good;
Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!
Oh, fear the Lord, you His saints!
There is no want to those who fear Him.
The young lions lack and suffer hunger;
But those who seek the Lord
shall not lack any good thing. (Verses 8-10)

Taste and see that the Lord is good.  Trust in that goodness, and receive blessings beyond your wildest dreams or imaginings.  Fear the Lord – revere the Lord, and you will find that there is not want for the things you need.  Even the king of the jungle will sometimes lack food and suffer hunger.  But, if we seek the Lord – chase after His heart – we shall never lack any good thing.

Talk about tasting great and satisfying!  Let shout it from the mountaintops!  “Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere.  Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born.”  And Christ Jesus is the final Word of God – the greatest expression of God known to all humanity.  What great power Christ has!  How good Christ tastes to those who seek his paths and accepts his gift!

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
