May the mumbling commence!
If one suffers, everyone else suffers with them. It is a rule in the Body of Christ. It is a rule in our bodies. It is a rule in all of God’s creation. Our choices affect far more than we may at first think. Read from Romans chapter eight (NIV):
I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. (Verses 18-23)
We wait eagerly for our full adoption as children of God. Well, all of creation also waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed in their full glory. Yes, we suffer together.
And we do not suffer by our own choice. We do not choose suffering.
But we do not suffer in vain. Our pain leads to life – much like birth pangs lead to life. Indeed, Paul tells us that our present sufferings cannot be compared with our future glory in Christ Jesus.
You know, no pain, no gain. But at least we can be together. Misery loves company, after all. And the glory will be all the more multiplied when we receive it together.
So be it. Help us to wait patiently, O Lord.
Enough mumbling for now…
Peace Out
