Here I Am To Worship; Psalm 100, Proverbs 9

May the mumbling commence!

Make a joyful noise to the Lord.  Commit random acts of kindness in the Name of God.  Let everyone with ears to hear and eyes to see and minds to understand know this dimension of our life worship of the Lord.  Read Psalm one-hundred:

Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before His presence with singing.
Know that the Lord,
He is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.

Sometimes, Christians descend into somberness and proper action only.  When we descend in this way, we ignore the call of Scripture.  I am attached to the traditions of Mennonites and Church of the Brethren.  Are we listening?  Are we seeing?  Do we understand the call contained in Psalm one-hundred?

Make a joyful shout!  It does not say a solemn whisper.  Shout out our praise of the Lord so that everyone may hear.  Seek to worship so extravagantly that we embarrass ourselves – like King David dancing before the Ark of the Covenant.

Serve the Lord with gladness.  That is easier for Anabaptists to swallow.  We know all about serving…  But do we serve with gladness and joy?  Or do we serve out of a sense of duty?  May we find gladness and joy in the act of serving and in the act of building relationships with people we serve… and who, in turn, serve us.

Know the Lord.  May our every effort be spent on dwelling with, abiding with, our Lord – so that we may know our Creator more and more.  That is what we need to seek each day – the presence of the Lord.

How else will we know God?  We spend time in Scripture reading and reflection.  We spend time in prayer.  We spend time with fellow believers.  In the process, we begin to better know God.

Enter into the gates of the Lord.  Set apart a special place to be with the Lord in your home.  Enter with thanksgiving and with praise.  Even though it is not the month of November, be thankful to the Lord.  Bless the Name of the Lord.

Our Lord is worthy of all these things.  There is none other who is more worthy.  I worship You, O Lord, in awe.  And, as we have seen in Psalm one-hundred, worship is an action verb.

The Lord’s wisdom leads us into righteous action.  The Lord’s wisdom leads us to the heights of our cities – mountain top experiences among downtown businesses.  Read from Proverbs chapter nine:

Wisdom has built her house,
She has hewn out her seven pillars;
She has slaughtered her meat,
She has mixed her wine,
She has also furnished her table.
She has sent out her maidens,
She cries out from the highest places of the city (Verses 1-3)

See all the actions of Wisdom?  She climbs the heights of the city.  No laziness or sloth there!  Folly, on the other hand, only sits by the highest places.  No drive to reach the heights that God has planned for us!

So, let us praise and worship God with our daily actions.

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
