May the mumbling commence!
On our road during Advent, John the Baptist calls us to prepare the way for the Lord. Are we prepared? Are we listening to the John the Baptists in our lives? Are we asking them what we should be doing? These are all essential questions to honestly ask ourselves, to ask those people who know us best, and to ask God. Let us say along with the psalmist in Psalm twenty-five:
Show me Your ways, O Lord;
Teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
For You are the God of my salvation;
On You I wait all the day.
Remember, O Lord,
Your tender mercies and Your loving-kindnesses,
For they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions;
According to Your mercy remember me,
For Your goodness' sake, O Lord. (Verses 4-7)
Your ways and Your paths and Your truth are our salvation, O Lord. If there is a doubt in our minds about Your way for our lives, then we will be content to wait all the live-long day.
Remember us in light of your mercy and loving-kindness. We have known these qualities of Yours from of old – from the generations that lived before us. We need that mercy and loving-kindness because we have sinned. Sometimes those sins sprouted from youthful ignorance. Others fester in our lives and become roadblocks against Your Holy Spirit in our lives.
Indeed, remember us and bless us so that we might bless You by blessing the people around us. To call to be remembered, to call to return to rightful relationship with the wisdom that God offers us is to pursue God’s heart in our lives. Read from Proverbs chapter four:
Get wisdom! Get understanding!
Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth.
Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you;
Love her, and she will keep you.
Wisdom is the principal thing;
Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting, get understanding. (Verses 5-7)
Lord, help us to make Your wisdom the principle thing in our lives. Inspire us with Your deep love of us to love You and all creation.
May we open our hearts and minds anew to the Baby Jesus this Advent Season. May we be ready for the dramatic change it will bring to us.
Enough mumbling for now…
Peace Out
