May the mumbling commence!
The last couple of days, I’ve been reflecting about God’s Christmas wish list. Today, I want us to be reminded of our position before God – even as we attempt to fill God’s wish list. Read from Psalm fifty-three:
God looks down from heaven upon the children of men,
To see if there are any who understand, who seek God.
Every one of them has turned aside;
They have together become corrupt;
There is none who does good,
No, not one. (Verses 2-3)
We may seek the Christ child this Advent. We may try to fill God’s wish list for us. But this old world and our old selves eventually get in the way – even for the best of us.
We cannot comprehend the full meaning and truth of God’s call in our lives. We turn aside from that call daily. We are corrupted by the corrosion of living in this fallen world. No one is good – no, not one. Only God is good… all the time.
Let’s come to our Lord in humility and silence. Let’s hear what our Creator would have us to do. And let’s trust in the work of the Christ in our lives. Read from Proverbs chapter seventeen:
He who has knowledge spares his words,
And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit.
Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace;
When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive. (Verses 27-28)
May our words be few. May we listen much – at least twice as much as we speak. Though we may be foolish at times, if we can rest some control over our lips and tongues, we will be counted among humanity to be perceptive.
Broken, we come as we are. May God change us that we may not leave as we came!
Enough mumbling for now…
Peace Out
