Total Community Commitment; Philippians

May the mumbling commence!

Faith in Jesus takes a total commitment.  Are you ready to give it all that you have?  This is the cheer that Paul is leading us in as he writes to the Philippians in chapter three (Peterson’s The Message paraphrase):

By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward – to Jesus.  I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.
So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us.  If any of you have something different in mind, something less than total commitment, God will clear your blurred vision – you’ll see it yet!  Now that we’re on the right track, let’s stay on it. (Verses 13-16)

Faith in Christ is not a competitive event.  It is a cooperative event.  But cooperation does not mean that we do not need to strive hard in tandem.

Let us keep our eyes on the goal of becoming more Christ-like.  Let us waste no time – off and running we go, never looking back.  It is the way that we will receive everything God has for us.  Let us do this together.

That means that we have to have this common goal in mind – being Christ-like.  It takes total commitment to Christ and total commitment to one another.  Our ultimate goal is lessened if we cannot stay on the path together.

Let us make that commitment together – totally!

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
