Like Father Like Children; Ephesians

May the mumbling commence!

I am sure that you’re familiar with the phrase “like father like son”.  Well, how can we be like our heavenly Father?  What do we need to do?  Look no further than the beginning of Ephesians chapter five (New English Bible translation):

In a word, as God’s dear children, try to be like him, and live in love as Christ loved you, and gave himself up on your behalf as an offering and sacrifice whose fragrance is pleasing to God.
(Verses 1-2)

Try to be like God?!?  How do we do that?  Live in love as Christ loved.  And that love means sacrifice… personal sacrifice for the betterment of other people… with no thought to self.  The love of Christ is selfless.

May we strive for the selflessness.  It pleases God.

I find a new connection with this idea as I have taken on the role of Jesus in a stage drama.  Carrying the cross to Golgotha makes an awesome impression on me.  What sacrifice!  Jesus chose this path because it was the will of his heavenly Father.  Jesus came from the highest place at the right hand of God to the lowest of places – to the indignity and shame of the cross.

Jesus suffered a slow and cruel death that began with the betrayal of Judas Iscariot and continued through his trial to his scourging to his crucifixion.  Yet, on the third day, Christ rose to glory.

Let us celebrate by living in the love of Christ.  Let us show that love to everyone who crosses our path.

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
