Comlete Joy; First John

May the mumbling commence!

Jesus Christ has won the day.  What greater thought can bring joy to our hearts?  The desire to bring that joy to the hearts of others is one of the underlying reasons for the author of First John to write.  For more people to join the celebration of joy would only multiply the joy of the messengers of the Word of God.  Read the first part of chapter one from the New International Version:

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched – this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.  The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.  We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.  We write this to make our joy complete. (Verses 1-4)

This is not a second-hand account.  It is an eyewitness that writes these words to us.  They heard Jesus.  They saw Jesus.  They looked at him and touched him.

They knew Jesus to be the very life of God – eternal and tangible right before them.  They continue to know fellowship with Jesus and the heavenly Father.  What joy the writers must know!

They did not attempt to hide the joy and keep it to themselves.  No!  They loudly proclaimed what they had seen and heard and touched.  They proclaimed the Son of God… the Messiah… the Christ… Jesus of Nazareth.  And they opened wide the doors of fellowship.

And that fellowship is with God and His Son Jesus.

Did their bold proclaiming and their opening wide the doors of fellowship diminish their joy?  NO!  It made their joy complete.

Did you know that when you join the celebration you help to make joy more complete in the family of God?  It is true.  It is a reason to write… to text… to blog… to broadcast… to Tweet… to Facebook…  I think you got the idea.  Every tool of communication at our disposal should be used to broadcast this joyful truth of Jesus – who he is, how he lived, how he taught, how he died for our sins, and how he rose again is triumph.

To communicate this fact in every possible way is the path to… joy.  Complete joy!  So let’s start that journey.

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
