May the mumbling commence!
Each day that we read the Bible and each day we pray – in fact, each day we practice any spiritual discipline – we find the rewarding anointing of the Holy Spirit on how we live in Jesus and on how we are to live our lives. It is my prayer that I will receive that daily anointing (for I need it daily) as I read and reflect with you.
I also hope and pray that the words of Scripture and my reflections might build up others in Christ Jesus. It is that anointing that the author of First John writes about in chapter two:
But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth. I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth.
Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist – he denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. And this is what he promised us – even eternal life.
I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray. As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit – just as it has taught you, remain in him. (Verses 20-27)
Belief is the unspoken start to the anointing. Believe in the name of Jesus the Christ.
Then, the anointing that you receive from the Holy Spirit is real. That anointing calls to remain, to abide. Jesus speaks directly to abiding in the gospel according to John. Jesus says that if we remain in him, we will bear much fruit to the glory of the Father. If we do not remain in Jesus, then we will be able to produce nothing (John 15:1-17).
The author of First John tells us that this remaining, this abiding is the Way to eternal life. Remain in that anointing. Be pickled in that anointing. Abide in that teaching. Review it. Meditate on it.
And let no one divert you from the lessons it teaches you. Any teaching that runs counter to the teachings of Jesus and the teachings of Scripture should be eschewed. For the anointing of the Holy One is our introduction to truth.
May my mumblings invite you to immerse yourself into the Bible – to remain and abide in your personal anointing from the Holy One.
Enough mumbling for now…
Peace Out
