May the mumbling commence!
Oh, Death where is your sting? Those who are left behind definitely feel the sting. But, for those who die, the sting is gone.
Death cannot silence worship or praise of God. The song goes on. The song may change. We may hear melodies that we have never heard before… but the song goes on. Not only does the song go on, but the song also becomes infinitely more beautiful.
It is cause to celebrate, and that celebration is founded in the obedience of Christ. Remember that ancient Christian hymn recorded by Paul in the second chapter his letter to the Philippians? Read the second half of the song from Peterson’s The Message:
Because of that obedience, God lifted him high and honored him far beyond anyone or anything, ever, so that all created beings in heaven and on earth – even those long ago dead and buried – will bow in worship before this Jesus Christ, and call out it praise that he is the Master of all, to the glorious honor of God the Father. (Verses 9-11)
Even those people who are long ago dead and buried will bow down to worship Christ Jesus. The worship service continues in heaven. The worship service reaches its crescendo in heaven. The sting of death has become the sweet taste of total reunion with our loving God and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Let us remember these things as we, the “living” gather to worship here on earth. We continue to worship with our loved ones who have passed away. They are right here among us – even though we cannot see them. And they make the hymns and choruses and songs of praise all the more worshipful toward Jesus and our heavenly Father.
Our living here on earth is but a faint shadow of the living that happens in heaven. Let us rejoice.
What better reason can there be for singing God a new song… and singing the old songs with a new awareness?
Enough mumbling for now…
Peace Out
