The Lord of the Journey. Exodus 25-26; Matthew 28

May the mumbling commence!

Our Lord is a Lord for the journey… a living, breathing Lord who journeys with us.  Praise God!  We see this kind of detail in amongst the details of the tabernacle in Exodus.  Read from chapter twenty-five:

"Make an Ark of acacia wood – a sacred chest 3-3/4 feet long, 2-1/4 feet wide, and 2-1/4 feet high.  Overlay it inside and outside with pure gold, and put a molding of gold all around it.  Cast four rings of gold for it, and attach them to its four feet, two rings on each side.  Make poles from acacia wood, and overlay them with gold.  Fit the poles into the rings at the sides of the Ark to carry it.  These carrying poles must never be taken from the rings; they are to be left there permanently.  When the Ark is finished, place inside it the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, which I will give to you.” (Verses 10-16)

Yes, it is easy to get lost in the details… especially me, a big-picture person.  But if I persist I will find those hidden (At least for me) gems.  The poles that were meant to carry the Ark of the Covenant – the very Presence of God – were meant to remain permanently in the rings.  The Ark was ready to go at a moment’s notice.  What a living and loving Lord!

And, with the Lord, there is always hope.  Read, this time, from Exodus chapter twenty-six:

"Make crossbars of acacia wood to run across the frames, five crossbars for the north side of the Tabernacle and five for the south side. Also make five crossbars for the rear of the Tabernacle, which will face westward.  The middle crossbar, halfway up the frames, will run all the way from one end of the Tabernacle to the other.  Overlay the frames with gold and make gold rings to support the crossbars. Overlay the crossbars with gold as well.” (Verses 26-29)

If the rear of the Tabernacle faces west, then the front of the Tabernacle faces east.  And we look to the east for the rising sun and the promise of a new day.  There is great hope in the rising of the sun!  There is great hope in the rising of God’s Son.

And God’s Son rose, indeed.  Jesus rose up from the grave!  Read from Matthew chapter twenty-eight:

Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to see the tomb.  Suddenly there was a great earthquake, because an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and rolled aside the stone and sat on it.  His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow.  The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.
Then the angel spoke to the women. "Don't be afraid!" he said. "I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.  He isn't here! He has been raised from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.  And now, go quickly and tell his disciples he has been raised from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember, I have told you."
The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to find the disciples to give them the angel's message.  And as they went, Jesus met them. "Greetings!" he said. And they ran to him, held his feet, and worshiped him.  Then Jesus said to them, "Don't be afraid! Go tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there." (Verses 1-10)

Do not be afraid.  Our Lord lives and moves and breathes.  We will not find Him in the cemetery.  We will find Him on the move, fulfilling His promises to us.  Will we take His lead and follow Him?

Let’s get a move on and follow our living Lord of the journey!

Enough mumbling for now…

Peace Out
